Exquisite Corpse, a Surrealist game

Intolerance lobbed like a whale breaching the ocean

The land turns gold as you go west

The zebras of the wild, the undertow

Run sweet beneath your boat

Walking on tiles that sink too fast

If I have one more glass, that should be enough

Yellow laughter, artful thoughts, grey mystique

Broody notes of warrantless hate in the sky

The unforeseen consequences of inventing language

Come to me sweetie. Welcome me inside—

There’s a lot of emotion between you and I

Ants on my feet, cricket in my head

Expectation and anticipation bubble up.

*Rules of the game:

Each participant composes one line, folds the page to cover his/her/their work, and then the next person writes a line. No one sees any of the previous lines until the poem circles the room once. At this point, we unfold the page to reveal the randomly composed poem.
