The Iron Lady
by: Sylvia Neely

A moon leading an army of bold light
Fixed in motion and place
Forty-weight in veins
To make the journey sound
The same she holds, this horse of many names,
Steel to the ground
Eighteen drums, each hammer a song of strength,
Turn on paved battlefield, carry the bounty to place
Spectators have fur and horns
In trance, do not speak or move
This iron lady demands and gives honor to
The other and the drones
Sight and sound the glory, no haven of rest to find,
No one home and hearth should prove.
